American Idol Final 3---now 2.
My header banner counter says 7 days to the finale! I haven't posted about AI since the local girl was booted off early into the finals. Tonite was the results show where the final 2 were revealed. Any of the 3 left had the stuff to be the next AI. So much talent. But it was Melinda Doolittle, the judges' favorite and a strong contender who is going home. Blake Lewis and Jordin Sparks will be competing for the American Idol Season Six title. I haven't really been all that excited about any of the contestants this year; seems any I did like were booted early. BUT---I am pleased with the final 2. Melinda is a GREAT singer and will do well. But the two left standing I think have "AI" appeal. Good luck to both!

The Journey Ends Tonight....

...And America got it WRONG! I'm not totally surprised that our hometown Idol Antonella Barba did not make the final 12. I have a theory on that, aside from her not being the strongest singer, (to put it politely) it has to do with a strategy of AI avoiding potential lawsuits from a previous Idol finalist who was discharged from AI when adult internet site photos of her appeared, while Antonella got to stay after racy photos of her were posted on the internet. Big difference there, Antonella didn't allow the pics of herself to be posted, the other woman did, and was paid for it. So, my theory: Have Antonella "voted" off, and it goes away. All that baloney aside, I really wanted to see her in the final 12. Oh well, what's done is done. She'll do fine, notoriety gets you far for a while. BUT---on the other side of the coin, 2 deserving finalists WERE sent home tonight and won't be in the final 12. Sabrina Sloan and Sundance Head should so be there. Sabrina wasn't one of my favorites, but I appreciated her talent. I really liked Sundance, and I'm sorry he won't be on any longer. Hmmm....I wonder what the heck happened? I really think"something" is screwy with the voting. I can't dwell on what's done. After all, it's only a TV show, and life goes on. Even though my Tuesday Wednesday and sometimes Thursday nights are consumed each week by IDOL shows! :-) Now, I need to pick a favorite or 2, because now, the competition really begins.

More Support for the Jersey Girl
Ah...scandalous photos probably helping her along, among other things, Antonella got enough votes to keep her around to sing next week. The girl better step it up and bring something Wednesday night. Out of the 8 girls that are left, 6 are REALLY good. The hometown girl is not one of them. If 2 are voted out each week, and the public starts to take the competion seriously, she could be gone. I'm still voting for the Jersey Girl, just because I can.

Personality and Cuteness!!

After a really shaky performance on Wednesday night, it looked like our hometown American Idol would be going home after the results show on Thursday night. The judges pretty much sealed her fate with their comments on her performance. Simon echoed my opinion, she had her looks going for her, but she'd probably be going
home. As the emlimination progressed, Antonella was the last on stage of the row of six girls; she looked so resigned and nervous standing with Ryan Seacrest waiting to hear that she was going home. I was totally shocked when Ryan announced that she was SAFE! I think she was surprised too, from her reaction. Thrilled, I am sure, b
ut suprised. I am glad, I'd like to see her sing another week. Hopefully she'll take the judges advice and choose a really good song and sway the judge's and viewer's opinions. I'm ignoring the "scandal" I've read about, for now. I voted for her a few times, as I said, we Jersey Girls have to stick together!

Hometown American Idol?

I've watched American Idol half-heartedly during seasons 1 & 2; and addicitvely since season 3. I'm not alone, many of my friends and co-workers do as well. While I was in rehab after the car accident, a couple of the girls would come by on "Idol Night" to watch on singing night, and call me throughout the results show on the following night. Even one of my nurses would sneak down to my room to watch a few segments in between rounds. My friends and I still call each other while the show is on to comment if we don't get together in person to watch. And of course, it's the topic of conversation at work the next morning.
This year, before the show aired, the rumors over the local grapevine said that AI cameras were following a local girl around..she made it through the auditions...and made it FAR. We were pretty sure it was true, as the cameras wouldn't tape someone if they didn't make it through to Hollywood and maybe further, would they? Well, the rumors were true, and Antonella Barba, one of the "best friends" from the NY/NJ auditions made it to the final 24!
My personal opinion, she's good, but she's not the best, so hopefully her personality and cuteness will help her along the way. We Jersey Girls have to stick together!
