Life's A Beach

I took off from work Wednesday since friends were coming down to visit and go to the beach. It was a perfect day, sunny, warm, wind off the ocean, (no flies!!) clear, and just the kind of beach day I loved in my "old life". With a little determination, I made it onto the sand and near the water to sit on a beach chair, and not only did my toes get in the sand on MY beach in Bay Head, my feet got to go in MY ocean. (MY as opposed to January in the Keys) The water felt very warm for mid-July, and the only thing that would have been better is if all of me got into the ocean, but it was a little too rough and with rip tides from the effects along the coast from Hurricane Bertha out by Bermuda, to even attempt that. Maybe another day the ocean will lay down enough that I can get in and out of it. Ah, in my old life I'd be diving the waves and body surfing, the bigger the wave the better. Here is my day at the beach. The color of the ocean on Wednesday was amazing, (all you doubters, the Jersey Shore is gorgeous) and if anyone ever wanted to know what I mean when I say my favorite colors are ocean shades...here they are.

There was also some beach knitting going on. What more appropriate project and yarn for a day at the beach than a Montego Bay scarf, an easy-breezy knit using Seasilk?

An end to an almost perfect day was a really good dinner and cocktails on the deck at Jack Baker's Wharfside, with a beautiful sunset and views of the commercial fishing boats coming in at the
end of a long day at sea. This boat is the Jersey Devil.

What a gorgeous day! And what an achievement to really dip your toes in. I hope that someday I get to dip my toes in there too. I've only been into the Pacific.

Weeee! I'm so glad you had that day, and I hope it was the first of many for this summer alone. The photos make me a bit sea-sick, in the "vacationhomesick" kind of way. September is a LONG ways off...

I'm sitting here at my desk at work, looking longingly at your photos. Those are my favorite colors as well. The Jersey shore is beautiful but not Ocean City beaches on a summer weekend. Not a bit of sand or open water anywhere. Not fun.

Splendid day. Thanks for sharing - I feel as if I was there with you. And what lovely, lovely pictures! Yarn in those tones would be marvelous.
