Cocoa Swap Topic of the Week # 4

Over at the Hot Cocoa Swap, the weekly topic is:
What is your most memorable vacation? Where did you go? What made it memorable?

I've been very fortunate, in that prior to my accident in 2004, I've been on, and been taken on, many wonderful vacations. Each one has it's own special memory, but I have to say, the most memorable one was 10 years ago, when 20 of us, all friends, rented 3 53' sailboats and sailed and partied through the British Virgin Islands for 10 days. It was memorable for me, because I'd never done anything like that before. Even though I live at the beach, I didn't do much boating. I get seasick. It was described to me, before we went, as "camping on the water". We were doing the "bareboat" thing. Bring our own provisions, etc. Huh? camping? me? I don't camp. My idea of "roughing it" is a hotel without room service. I made sure there was a place I could stay on land at if I hated it before we booked. And I got the "seasick patch" from my doctor. I was pleasantly surprised that I loved it! We had so much fun, the weather was awesome, the people were great, and I loved every minute of it. The BVIs had much to offer, it was wonderful. I never had the chance to do it again, although the offer extended, the timing or money never was right. It's something I can't do now, so I am glad I did it back then.

That sounds like an awesome vacation. I am a terrible sailor, I get really sick. Air travel does that to me too. I have labrynthitis, an inner ear thing that some days makes me dizzy on solid ground. My most memorable was a week long camping trip when my girls were small. We swam all day and had campfires at night. They went to bed early because they were still young so my husband and I got some alone time. It was peaceful and beautiful.

WOW, that is awesome! Something many people would never do even if they were able, so I'm glad that you did it!

what a wonderful sounding vacation! it sounds like you had a marvelous experience. 53' boats are a FEW steps up from our 25' sailboat...

Ah, one more thing we have in common! I used to love to hike and camp as a child, but since my back became an issue, I too say "My idea of camping is a hotel without room service."

Dear Pal,

Your package is on its way. It should arrive this week. It's packed rather tightly to keep everything from shifting and certain items from breaking (you'll see.)

I hope you like it!

Love,

Your Secret Pal
